After many years of working on hot dog and pretzel carts on the streets of New York City, Lefteris decided to open up his own cart. In 1979 he opened a souvlaki cart serving authentic hand skewered souvlaki, grilled over hardwood charcoal and the rest is history.

He was an instant favorite in Astoria and quickly became the go to spot for Greek street food, with the savory aromas of the grilling meat and the billowing smoke, entrancing passersby and beckoning them to our cozy little corner of the neighborhood.

After many years of hard work our uncle decided to retire, handing over the reins to his two nephews Kostas and George, our own father and uncle. They carried on the hard work, always with a smile and a warm greeting until today. Along with us, Kostas and George’s children, our family business grew from the humble little cart our uncle left us, to 4 food trucks and now an actual brick and mortar restaurant; a dream of ours that we finally fulfilled thanks to the support of our community, our family and friends, and our loyal customers.

Our Food

Here at King Souvlaki we serve only the finest and most authentic Greek street food, outside of Greece. In all of our locations we make everything by hand. From our famous hand skewered souvlaki, our hand stacked gyros, to our hand-cut fries cooked in Extra Virgin olive oil, our customers can attest to our superior and genuine quality.

Unlike the majority of our competitors, we never use processed or frozen gyros. We prefer to do things the old fashioned way and with a little extra hard work, our efforts shine through to our product that has time and again received many recognitions and praise.
